Oaxacanite

OAXACANITE

  • 1 oz. / 30 ml. tequila

  • 1 oz. / 30 ml. mezcal

  • ¾ oz. / 22.5 ml. fresh lime juice

  • ¾ oz. / 22.5 ml. honey syrup

  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters

  • grapefruit peel, to shake

METHOD
add all ingredients including grapefruit peel to shaker tin / shake with ice until chilled (also known as a “regal shake”) / fine strain into coupe or Nick and Nora / no garnish

ABOUT
This drink was created by Ben Long at the John Dory Oyster Bar (NYC; now closed). He was mentored by late bar legend Sasha Petraske. He wanted to show that mezcal did have a place in cocktails (a rarity at the time). Shaking with the peel (regal shake) is a wonderful way to add flavor. Cheers y’all!
