Social Animal
12-02-2024
This old fashioned variation was created in 2020 by Tony Roehr for Raised By Wolves (San Diego, CA). This one is described as being like banana bread in a glass, and that is the perfect description. It is not sweet, rather it is full of warm spices and a slight touch of banana. Enjoy this glass of nutty goodness. Cheers y’all!
Dickensian Villain
12-01-2024
This one is by Danielle Crouch and Allan Katz, who made it for Here's Looking At You (Los Angeles). The split base gives it a balance of warmth and tropical brightness, with a touch of grenadine for sweetness and Fernet for a little bitter edge. “It tastes like drinking your way through Christmas break,” says Katz. Cheers y’all!
High Functioning
11-30-2024
This one comes via Jordan Hughes (@highproofpreacher) and his book, “Twist.” Honestly, if you’re on the search for a gift or want to treat yourself, please get his book. The recipes are amazing, the photos are phenomenal, and he is a genuine guy. Now the drink: pineapple + coffee is a dream duo, just trust me. Cheers y’all!
Sinus Rhythm
11-29-2024
This cocktail is my take on a bold and balanced espresso martini. It’s built around the punchy flavors of overproof Jamaican rum. It’s strong, rich, and just the right amount of complex. After one of these, your heart might skip a beat (in a good way). Cheers y’all!
Banana Rum Highball
11-28-2024
This lovely highball was created by my friend Isaiah LaBelle (@onesipclub). He suggests using Smith and Cross if you have it, though Planteray OFTD is what he went with. This highball is perfect for the winter season when you want a tropical drink full of warm spices. Cheers y’all!
Dirty Banana
11-27-2024
This cocktail is an absolute guilty pleasure of mine. It is a popular cocktail in Jamaica and it combines all my favorite ingredients: rum, coffee, and banana. Just like when making banana bread, the riper (the darker) the banana, the better! Have yourself an adult milkshake, no judgment here. Cheers y’all!
Spiced Cranberry Sazerac
11-26-2024
This is a fun spin on the classic Sazerac by Jordan Hughes (@highproofpreacher). He swaps in spiced cranberry syrup for the usual demerara, which adds a nice tartness and warmth from the spices—perfect for the season. The strong, boozy base still shines through. Cheers y’all!
Monte-Killer
11-25-2024
This is a variation on the classic Painkiller tiki drink by Mike Agudelo (@cocktails_with_mike). The Amaro Montenegro accentuates the orange and nutmeg flavors already featured in the classic. The float of pineapple rum ties it all together. Cheers y’all!
Last Side
11-24-2024
This cocktail was created by Matthias Soberon (@servedbysoberon) back in 2019. He designed this refreshing drink for a distillery to highlight their juniper heavy gin. He created this as a riff and hybrid of a Last Word and Southside, where he ditched the maraschino for some lovely absinthe. Cheers y’all!
20th Century
11-23-2024
Meet a classic cocktail that dates back to 1937 where it appeared in Billy Tarling’s “Café Royal Cocktail Book.” It does not get as much love as it deserves; perhaps that is due to the combo of lemon and chocolate. On paper it may sound off, but believe me when I’ve said I’ve made this two more times since taking this photo. Cheers y’all!
Between the Sheets
11-22-2024
This 1920s cocktail is a slight variation on the Sidecar, where cognac is split with rum. These specs are from Death & Co’s Cocktail Codex book. They use an aged Jamaican rum for a little funk, and curaçao instead of Cointreau, which is balanced with demerara (the gum gives it body). Cheers y’all!
Right At Home
11-21-2024
This cocktail was created by Anu Shukla (@anushu802), who wanted to make a fall sipper. It is spirit-forward and bold, with notes of apple, bitterness, and earthy undertones. The Chartreuse adds an herbal component, and the mezcal provides a slight smoke that is not overpowering. Cheers y’all!
It’s Not a Phase, Mom
11-20-2024
This cocktail was recently created by Matthias Soberon (@servedbysoberon) who was inspired by Death & Co’s Beach Goth, which uses bourbon and Campari instead of rum and amaro. The name is also just perfect. I didn’t have any emo props, so enjoy the handcuffs. Cheers y’all!
Bitter Death in the Afternoon Fizz
11-19-2024
This cocktail by Amy Traynor began as a Ramos Gin Fizz, but the gin vanished along the way. Instead, they embraced the unexpected with lots of Peychaud's bitters, plus absinthe and champagne inspired by the drink Death in the Afternoon. Cheers y’all!
Left on Read
11-18-2024
This cocktail was created in 2022 by Sebastien Marrow at Dutch Kills (New York). He uses an aged Brazilian spirit that adds cinnamon and vanilla notes. The port brings rich, jammy depth, Cynar adds a bitter edge, and Cointreau brightens it up. This one is smooth, layered, and a little mysterious, like that unanswered text. Cheers y’all!
Stinger
11-17-2024
This classic cocktail dates back to 1913, where it was featured in Jacques Straub's, “Straub's Manual of Mixed Drinks.” It gained popularity in the 1920s because of Reginald "Reggie" Vanderbilt, an American millionaire and father of fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt. He likely enjoyed these too much, as he died of liver failure in 1925 at the age of 45. Cheers y’all!
Old Cuban
11-16-2024
Meet a modern classic, the Old Cuban, which was created by the legendary Audrey Saunders in 2004 (New York). This is a delicious, minty daiquiri topped with champagne (or a champagne mojito?). I am always making these in the summer when I entertain…but I’ll drink these year round! Cheers y’all!
Terroir Cocktail
11-15-2024
I am loving the cocktail community on Threads. I recently acquired some Chartreuse and received many recommendations for new drinks to make with it. Thank you to @marriedwdinner for this one. This martini style cocktail comes from Jennifer Seidman and Dion Jardine at Acme Bar (Berkeley, CA). Cheers y’all!
Smokescreen
11-14-2024
This refreshing cocktail was created in 2010 by Alex Day for Death & Company. It is a twist on another cocktail he made, the Smoke and Mirrors, which is the same recipe except two dashes absinthe are used instead of Chartreuse. The Chartreuse gives this one a nice savory profile. Cheers y’all!
Daily Rituals
11-13-2024
If you haven’t had an espresso martini with something other than vodka, you’re missing out. This one is by Allison Larson who created it at Polite Provisions (San Diego, CA). She wanted to combine an espresso martini and a Carajillo. I love the depth here! Cheers y’all!
